What Is an IME?
An independent medical exam (IME) is a medical evaluation performed by a doctor chosen by the insurance company or opposing party, rather than the claimant’s own physician, to assess an injury or condition related to a claim. When the claimant doesn’t speak English fluently, an interpreter ensures the exam findings accurately reflect what the claimant reports about their symptoms and history.
