Korean presents a specific interpreting problem: honorifics and speech level. Korean grammatically encodes the relationship between speaker and listener, and a witness under oath will often shift register — becoming markedly more formal — in ways that carry no direct English equivalent. An untrained interpreter either loses this or over-translates it into stilted English. A trained one renders the content faithfully without editorializing about tone.
Korean also front-loads context and places the verb last, so interpreters must hold a complete thought before rendering it. Rushing produces half-sentences on the transcript.
